  1. This file performs a patch upgrade of Qmodem v5.0 to v5.01. Follow the
  2. instructions in this readme file exactly to upgrade your registered
  3. version of Qmodem 5.0 to Qmodem 5.01.

  6. Application of this patch to a licensed Qmodem v5.0 will actually change
  7. the code to make it identical to the new version 5.01. It does absolutely
  8. nothing without being applied to a registered, commercial Qmodem v5.0.

  11.   It will ONLY operate on a registered commercial copy of QMODEM 5.0,
  12.   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  13.    and is not a complete program. It is ONLY a patch which performs
  14.    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  15.   the update to version 5.01. It will NOT work on Test-Drive releases.

  19.    It may only be used by paid licensees of QMODEM 5.0 who purchased

  31. QMODEM v5.01 is a minor update which adds a number of features and fixes
  32. several minor problems with the original release. Complete details of the 
  33. changes follow the update instructions.
  34.  
  35. The update program consists of two parts, the executable patch 
  36. program (PATCH.EXE) and the patch data file (PATCH.RPT). The patch
  37. data file contains all the information needed to make changes in 
  38. the old executable files and to track the application of patches,
  39. even after multiple updates have been performed.
  40.  
  41. To perform the update follow these simple instructions:
  42.  
  43. 1.  Copy the patch file to your Qmodem directory. 
  44.  
  45. 2.  Extract the patch files and new emulation files from the self-
  46.     extracting archive by typing QM5PTCH.

  48.     Note:  If you have customized your emulation .KEY files
  49.            you should make backups prior to performing this step,
  50.            or refrain from overwriting your old .KEY files. If
  51.            you have not customized your emulation .KEY files,
  52.            overwrite them when prompted.

  54. 3.  Before beginning the patch process, make certain that all QMODEM
  55.     executable files are present including QMODEM.EXE, QMODEM.OVR,
  56.     QSM.EXE and QMEDIT.EXE.  If any of these files are missing the patch
  57.     program will not run.

  59. 4.  From the QMODEM 5.0 directory and type PATCH and press <ENTER>.

  61. 5.  A successful patch process results in the following screen 
  62.     indicating that three files were patched:

  89. NEW FEATURES.CHANGES
  90. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  91. The changes to Qmodem v5.01 include:
  92.  
  93. - The ANSI Music feature was added as the key Alt-4. 
  94.  
  95. - The Alt-2 key is now used to toggle between 25 line mode and 43/50 line
  96.   mode. 
  97.  
  98. - Terminal emulations for VT52, IBM3101 and Heath were added, including
  99.   new .KEY files.
  100.  
  101. - The Shell function takes much less space when swapping to disk or EMS.
  102.   This change results in much faster Alt-R, Alt-M and editor usage.
  103.  
  104. - Memory usage was optimized and offers better compatibility in DESQview
  105.   and Windows environments.
  106.  
  107. - The opening screen now carries an indication that the program is a
  108.   commercial product and is not to be distributed. This screen has a
  109.   5 second delay which can be bypassed by pressing the spacebar.
